- Adding Content -

eHome uses a simple folder structure to handle Video, Audio and Photo content. This for a couple of reasons... one being that there is no central server, content can be distributed all over your network including the touch screen computers themselves or a central file server. This also allows for content to be moved around and all that has to happen is for the eHome Video server (or Audio) to restart and this can be done from the Administrator.

If you wanted to add a new movie or CD Just run the eHome rippers and follow the on screen prompts. They will automatically search your network for eHome computers and prompt you for where you want to copy your files to.

If you wanted to add a new movie by hand here is what you would do. First create a new folder on one of your computers. Example (c:\eHome\Video\New Movie) Copy your video content to the new folder. Start the eHome Administrator and select you new movie and edit the title, etc. restart your eHome Video server and the movie is automatically added. You would do the same for Audio, create a new folder, copy all your MP3 (or what ever codec WinAmp supports) to it, Run the eHome Administrator and select you new Audio content and click edit.

NOTE: The eHome Video ripper does NOT make backups of copy protected disks. If you want to backup your LEGALLY purchased disk then take a look at  Slysoft Video tools This tool works seamlessly with the eHome rippers.

- How eHome finds content -

eHome can find content in one of two ways. First is by searching for it itself. If you setup your drives to be shared (simply share your C drive) and all computers can see each other without the need of a Windows username and password then eHome will also see them and search for a eHome folder. The program 'eHomeContentShares.exe' will scan your network and write out a file called 'eHomeContentShares.dat' (this is run on install and can be re-run from eHome Wizard) This file will contain all found shares with eHome folders. The second way is to edit the INI files directly and this too can be done from the eHome Wizard.

The 'eHomeContentShares.dat' will look something like this:

[MAIN]
2=\\holly\175gig
3=\\holly\220gig
4=\\cat\e

So eHome will look at these three drives for a folder structure of:
 \eHome\Audio for Audio
 \eHome\Video for Video
